▶ Snowy, una hermosa cruce de Labrador/Mastín, llegó al cuidado de la perrera de Los Barrios en febrero de 2021 y tenía aproximadamente 1 año de edad al llegar.

Fue encontrada deambulando por las calles con sus dos cachorros. Un hombre amable los acogió en su jardín, brindándoles un refugio seguro del tráfico. Contactó a la perrera y, poco después, los tres fueron llevados a un hogar de acogida.

Los cachorros de Snowy encontraron familias amorosas, pero el viaje de Snowy tomó un giro desgarrador. En agosto de 2021, su padre de acogida ya no pudo mantenerla y fue llevada a la perrera. La transición del calor de un hogar al caos de la perrera fue abrumadora para ella. Durante los primeros meses, vivió en una jaula sola, tratando de adaptarse a su nueva vida, y más tarde compartió un corral con otros perros.

Aunque Snowy pudo hacer nuevos amigos caninos, confiar en nuevas personas ha sido una verdadera lucha para ella. Con aquellos que conoce, Snowy es increíblemente dulce y cariñosa, su naturaleza gentil brillando a través. Sin embargo, el estrés constante que sentía en la perrera hacía imposible abordar sus inseguridades profundas. Su ansiedad se manifestaba de formas desgarradoras—ladrando y girando en su jaula, intentando desesperadamente encontrar un sentido de seguridad.

En enero de 2024, hubo un destello de esperanza cuando un voluntario familiar la llevó a un hogar de acogida, con el objetivo de ayudar a Snowy a construir confianza y seguridad. Lamentablemente, aún era un entorno demasiado estresante para ella, con todo el tráfico y las personas que pasaban, así que en abril, regresó a la perrera.

Pero no podíamos simplemente dejarla allí en una pequeña jaula, con pocas esperanzas de encontrar su hogar definitivo. Así que, unas semanas después, Snowy fue trasladada a una pequeña residencia de entrenamiento en una tranquila zona rural, donde está aprendiendo a superar sus miedos a su propio ritmo. Necesitamos recaudar fondos cada mes para mantener a Snowy allí hasta que encuentre su familia para siempre. Regresar a la perrera rompería su espíritu y desharía todo el progreso que está logrando.

Mayo 2024: Hace un par de semanas, dos voluntarios fueron a visitar a Snowy en su residencia de entrenamiento. Fue increíble ver lo mucho más relajada que estaba y observarla jugar con sus nuevos amigos perrunos.

Nada de esto sería posible sin el apoyo de todos los que han donado para el cuidado de Snowy, así que muchas gracias por su amabilidad y generosidad. El costo mensual es de 300 € y esto incluye todos los gastos y el entrenamiento que Snowy necesita desesperadamente.

Snowy necesita una familia con experiencia, sin niños, en un hogar tranquilo y rural con un jardín. Un gran compañero canino macho amigable sería ideal para ayudarla a sentirse segura y feliz.

▶ Snowy, a beautiful Labrador/Mastin cross, came into the care of the Los Barrios pound in February 2021 and was about 1 year old on arrival.

She was found wandering the streets with her two young puppies. A kind man took them into his garden, providing them with a safe haven from the traffic. He contacted the pound, and shortly after, all three went into a foster home.

Snowy’s puppies found loving families, but Snowy’s journey took a heartbreaking turn. In August 2021, her foster dad could no longer keep her, and she was taken to the pound. The transition from the warmth of a home to the chaos of the pound was overwhelming for her. For the first several months, she lived in a cage on her own trying to adapt to her new life, and later shared a pen with other dogs.

Although Snowy was able to make new dog friends, trusting new people has been a real struggle for her. With those she knows, Snowy is incredibly sweet and loving, her gentle nature shining through. However, the constant stress she felt at the pound made it impossible to address her deep-seated insecurities. Her anxiety manifested in heartbreaking ways—barking and spinning in her cage, desperately trying to find a sense of safety.

In January 2024, there was a glimmer of hope when a familiar volunteer took her into foster care, aiming to help Snowy build trust and confidence. Sadly, it was still too stressful of an environment for her, with all the traffic and people passing by, so in April, she returned to the pound.

But we couldn’t just leave her there in a small cage, with little hope of ever finding her forever home. So, just a few weeks later, Snowy was moved to a small training residence in a serene rural area, where she is learning to overcome her fears at her own pace. We need to raise the funds each month to keep Snowy there until she finds her forever family. Returning to the pound would break her spirit and undo all the progress she’s making.

A Snowy update May 2024:

A couple of weeks ago 2 volunteers went to visit Snowy at her training residence. It was amazing to see how much more relaxed she was, and to watch her playing with her new doggie friends.

None of this would be possible without the support of everyone who has donated toward Snowy’s care, so thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. The monthly cost is 300€ and this includes all expenses and the training that Snowy so desperately needs.

Snowy needs an experienced family without children, in a quiet, rural home with a garden. A big friendly male canine companion would be ideal to help her feel secure and happy.
